General Business:
Covid – Orange Level Protection Policy was divided into three categories with each category voted on.

1. Access to the Club House (including attached deck & Toilets), interior starters shed, equipment, & greenkeepers sheds – Vaccination passes needed. (Unanimous)

2. Entering Club Competitions and tournaments – Vaccination Passes needed. (12 for 6 against)

3. The rest of the Golf Course – R Heuvel: Moved that the whole golf course be restricted to vaccinated only but this was not supported. So Unvaccinated are able to play but with restrictions to be set later by the committee.

It was suggested that those with exemptions or negative rapid antigen covid tests be allowed to participate in 1 & 2 but NZ Golf guide lines don’t exist yet for these.

The Committee is able to make adjustments to the above, as and when the Covid Protection Framework adjusts its colour levels.

There being no further business for discussion, the Meeting Closed at 3.50pm.

TAKAKA GOLF CLUB PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2021

Welcome everybody to our 2021 AGM and thank you for your continuing support for the Club

2021 has followed on from 2020 by being very different and with some innovative challenges. At least this year we were able to hold the Golden Bay Open and we made some major improvements to our water supply.

In really every way we have done very well. The course is in excellent condition (thanks Dave) our regulars have continued to play and enjoy themselves (despite the new handicap system) and we have eaten well (thanks to all of those making sandwiches and the wonderful women who provide banquets for special events. Also of great note is that our bar takings are well up so well done Bev on providing an excellent service and to those of you who enjoy the company so much that you cannot resist an extra tipple.

Others worthy of note are:

  •   Sue, who has picked up the secretary duties to add to being treasurer after Trevor’s

    unfortunate accident

  •   Rob and Ray who have put in many hours connecting the new water system and those people who generously donated to help cover the costs of this.

  •   Paul for looking after the Clubhouse in his own inimitable style = we will miss you Paul, and you too Laurie as you migrate to the wrong side of the hill.

Congratulations to all of you who have been winners, which in my view is really everybody because you are all getting out there and giving it a go.

So thanks to all of you in whatever way you have helped the Club this year whether being a hard- working committee member, providing food, keeping Bev busy, starting donating prizes or anything else that helps everybody enjoy their golf. One of the strengths of this Club is the way that so many members contribute when there’s a need.

A final thank you to all of our sponsors who make the financial situation of the Club much more secure.

I have every confidence that Takaka Golf Club will continue to be a very good place to play golf but we cannot sit on our haunches and just continue to think that this will always be so. There are new challenges which if not faced to the best of our ability, could prove deadly. We need to urgently embrace change and plan ahead and a vital first step for this is going to happen before the end of this meeting.

So best wishes to our new Committee in 2022. It is pleasing to see some new names and faces. I just ask that all members support those who take on responsibility and give a hand when needed.

Who knows what’s in store for 2022 but let’s all make sure that we can continue to enjoy our golf on an excellent course in a wonderful location and ensure that it is a safe place to be.

John Garner December 2021
